Scheduling/Caching Disciplines in Data Broadcasting
Recently, many television broadcasters and wireless personal communication service companies
have tried to exploit a new area of services, providing supplementary digital data
in addition to the traditional ones. Typically, with such kind of services, users are
sensitive to delay they suffer, and the turn-around time of a certain item may be
too long. In this area, here are two kinds of challenge. One is to determine
the broadcast schedule (what and when to broadcast), and the other is
to manage the client local storage to compensate for substantial delays
and keep the response time reasonable.
