Dongsu Han is a PhD candidate in the Dept. of Computer Science at
Carnegie Mellon University. He is advised by Srinivasan Seshan and his
research interest spans the area of distributed systems and networking.
In his recently proposed thesis, he argues that in light of recent
trends towards integration of caches within the network, end-points
should adapt their behavior to achieve high performance and better
network efficiency.
ABSTRACT (Tentative):
Traffic demand on the Internet is rapidly growing both at an unprecedented rate
and scale. This growth is largely driven by transfer of multimedia content.
With the ever increasing demand for content, it is increasingly important to design
a network that scales with such demand. An important related challenge is providing
robustness. As the traffic demand grow rapidly, congestion related loss is likely to be
more common in networks whose capacity do not catch up with the demand. Therefore,
efficient and robust content delivery is becoming ever more important.
This talk will discuss two systems that address different aspects of these challenges.
The first is RPT, a novel scheme for robust communication in content-aware networks.
The second is XIA, an expressive Internet architecture that accommodates
the growing diversity of network use models, such as content-aware
networking, by allowing incremental evolution in the network.
