Abstract :
With the revival of software virtualization in PC-based computing environment
to use various legacy applications on more than two different operating systems
installed onto a single hardware, recently, the virtualization techniques give
additional opportunities for reliable embedded software architecture design.
In order to ensure reliability and security and to support non real-time legacy
applications and hard real-time applications at the same time on a single system,
designing an embedded system using virtualized software architecture is being seriously
considered. L4 microkernel and the microkernel-based virtualized software architecture are
getting attention nowadays as a feasible software architecture for secured and reliable
embedded systems.  This talk gives overall introductions of virtualized software architecture trends
and the recommended structure of L4 microkernel-based virtualized embedded software
platform with the key characteristics of L4 microkernel.
